The "Research Use Only" status
Research peptides are marketed under the label Research Use Only (RUO): they are sold as laboratory reagents intended for scientific research, and not as medicines, dietary supplements or consumer products. This status governs their sale but also implies clear restrictions on their stated use.
What this means in practice
- RUO peptides cannot be marketed with therapeutic, cosmetic or nutritional claims
- They are not subject to the same controls as a medicinal product (marketing authorization, or "AMM" in French) since they are not sold for that purpose
- Their use is the buyer's responsibility, who must use them in accordance with their stated purpose
The ANSM and monitoring of certain molecules
The ANSM (Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament — France's national medicines safety agency) monitors the misuse of certain substances, in particular when they are used for doping purposes or human consumption outside a medical setting. Some peptides may be placed on watch lists or lists of controlled substances: these lists change over time, so it is important to check the current status of a compound before ordering if there is any doubt.
Online sales and legal age
The online sale of research peptides is governed by general e-commerce rules (consumer law, GDPR) in addition to rules specific to the products sold. BioPep restricts access to its site to adults (18 years and older).
Our position
BioPep sells exclusively products intended for laboratory research, with verifiable purity documentation (COA) on every batch. We encourage every buyer to ensure that their intended use complies with the regulations of their country of residence. See our Research Use Only page for details of the commitments related to purchase.
To learn more
The ANSM website (ansm.sante.fr) publishes up-to-date information on substances under surveillance. If in doubt about a specific compound, it is the most reliable source to consult.
